Karim Barsali was partner-chef
and the inspiration behind Crepes a Coco The Coconut Groove near Arizmendi
on Lakeshore. Barsali, born and raised in Paris, opened Le Theatre in
Berkeley with a partner in 2002. He's kept to the French style of his
previous two ventures in what was formerly a juice bar, and the crepes
he whips up on demand are fabulous. The savory crepes (buckwheat galettes)
are thin and perfectly crispy; the dessert crepes are made with pastry
flour and interesting, flavorful fillings. There are daily specials and
cold and hot sandwiches, including the straight-from-Paris croque monsieur. |
